 Vaniqa
is the brand name for Eflornithine. It is used to reduce unwanted
facial hair in women. The topical treatment interferes with
a chemical in the hair follicles of the skin. This results slower
hair growth where Vaniqa is applied. The topical treatment will
improve your appearance by managing the growth of facial hair.
(Eflornithine topical may also be used for purposes other than

Wash your hands before and after each application
Remove any facial hair that is present using your current hair
removal techniques. Wait at least 5 minutes after hair removal before
applying Vaniqa. Apply a thin layer of the topical to the affected
areas of the face and nearby affected areas under the chin and rub
it in thoroughly.
It should be applied twice daily -- at least eight hours apart
Do not wash the treatment areas for at least 4 hours after application
Cosmetics or sunscreen may be used after applying Vaniqa, but
you should wait a few minutes to allow the treatment to be absorbed
before applying them
41 million women suffer from unwanted facial hair. Vaniqa is FDA
approved. A clinical trial studied the facial hair growth in patients.
Vaniqa topical was tested for how it blocks the natural chemical
necessary for hair growth. It demonstrated over a 60 percent significant
reduction in facial hair growth in human studies. The women completing
at least six months of treatment experienced a significant reduction
of facial hair. The prescription cream takes about two months to
work. Also it worked regardless of whether the hair growth was caused
by hereditary factors or a medical condition.
If you miss a dose of Vaniqa topical, skip the dose you missed
and apply your next regularly scheduled dose as directed. In an
attempt to "make up" a missed dose, do NOT apply a double dose of
the medication.
Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If
this occurs, wash the area with water. If Vaniqa topical gets in
your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water and contact your doctor
Continue to use Vaniqa even if you do not see immediate results
Facial hair reduction occurs gradually and varies from person
to person. Improvement may be seen as early as 4 to 8 weeks of treatment;
however, it may take longer. If an improvement is NOT seen after
6 months of use, treatment with Vaniqa topical should be discontinued.
Hair growth may return to pretreatment levels approximately 8 weeks
after discontinued treatment with Vaniqa.
Store Vaniqa topical at room temperature away from moisture and
heat. (Do not allow the medication to freeze)
Vaniqa topical may cause temporary redness, stinging, rash, burning
hair bumps, (folliculitis), or tingling--especially if it is applied
to broken or irritated skin. If irritation develops, reduce the
application of the topical treatment to once a day. If irritation
continues, stop using it and contact your physician.
