An oral antifungal agent, Diflucan is used
to treat vaginal yeast infections. It is preferred by
women. In a market research survey, 9 out of 10 women
reported that they would choose Diflucan to a vaginally
inserted cream. |

Diflucan works best when the amount of medicine in your body is
kept at a constant level. Take Diflucan at evenly spaced intervals.
It should be taken as directed since different conditions require
different methods of use. Usually, Diflucan is taken one time per
day. Another dosage requirement involves taking Diflucan for one
week per month and until treatment is completed. Always continue
taking Diflucan until the full prescribed amount is used -- even
if symptoms disappear. Early discontinued use of the medication
may allow the yeast to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
The adverse effects associated with the use of Diflucan may cause
stomach upset, altered taste, diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite,
headache or dizziness during the first few days as your body adjusts
to the medication. If the symptoms become bothersome, inform your
doctor. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction Diflican,
seek immediate medical attention. The adverse events of an allergic
reaction include the following: itching, swelling, rash, dizziness,
and trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above,
contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Notify your physician your medical history, specifically if you
have a medical history of: liver disease, kidney disease, any drug
allergies. Diflucan should be used only when needed during pregnancy
and not during nursing. (Consult your physician about the safety
of Diflucan, pregnancy and breast feeding.
Notify your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription
drugs you may use, especially of: astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine,
oral contraceptives, cyclosporine, oral antidiabetic drugs, hydrochlorothiazide,
phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., alprazolam,
triazolam), tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine.
Without physician or pharmacist approval, do not start or stop any
medicine.
Always follow the prescription instructions of your doctor. The
information outlined in this site should not be construed to indicate
the safety of Diflucan, or effective for you. Consult your physician
before using this drug.
Do not use Diflucan later for another infection or give it to someone
else. A different medicine may be needed.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center
or emergency room immediately. The symptoms of overdose may include
hallucinations and changes in behavior. If you miss a dose, take
it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose,
take the scheduled dose only. Do not "double-up" the dose
to catch up.
Store Diflucan at room temperature away from moisture, sunlight and
out of the reach of children.
