In men over the age of 18 years, including men with diabetes,
or who have undergone a prostatectomy, Cialis is prescribed for
erectile dysfunction and impotence. It works by blocking an enzyme
called PDE-5, (a natural chemical part of the chain of chemical
messages responds to a man's erection to go away). (Cialis is
manufactured by Eli Lilly and Co. and ICOS Corp.)
Cialis is effective for up to 48 hours. It takes approximately
15-30 minutes for Cialis to work. Unlike other prescriptions,
Cialis can be ingested on a full stomach. Take each Cialis dose
with a glass of water. (The prescription only works in conjunction
with sexual stimulation.)
Men who experience an erection for more than four hours should
seek immediate medical attention. Cialis may cause dizziness.
Cialis is not prescribed for women, children pregnant or breast
feeding patients.
Potentially, serious side effects are not likely to occur with
the use of Cialis. Common side effects with Cialis include the
following medical conditions: headache, upset stomach, backache,
and muscle ache. Men should discuss their health status with their
doctors to confirm that Cialis is right for them. Check with your
physician about any side effect that seems unusual or that is
especially bothersome.
• Do not take Cialis if you have taken a monoamine oxidase
inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil),
or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. Cialis should
not be taken if you take medicines called "alpha blockers"
other than Flomax® 0.4mg once daily. Additionally, if you
have been instructed by your healthcare provider not to have sexual
activity because of health problems.
Notify your physician about all the medicines you take including
prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal
supplements. CIALIS and other medicines may affect each other.
If you have any of the following medical conditions: cardiac disease,
high blood pressure, had a stroke, liver problems, kidney problems,
retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic, stomach ulcers, bleeding
problem, a deformed penis shape or Peyronie’s disease, blood
cell problems,, multiple myeloma, leukemia or any prolonged erections
notify your physician.
